2001.01.21 THE BIG CLICK ... As I have mentioned before, we have a doctor's-type scale, with the big weight that slide between 50 lbs weight ranges, making a BIG CLICK as it settles into the groove on the bar. Well, today, I passed that barrier for the penultimate time (look that up in your Funk & Wagnall's).

Vicki & I went for our LONG weekend walk today, taking a circuit that covers 5.5 miles. I have worked up my cardiovascular endurance such that my breathing and heart rate are OK. However, my shoulders and feet start to feel the effects of the walk after 83 minutes!

I was pleasantly surprised by the scale fairy with a 3 lbs loss for the week. I'm right on track to make goal before the end of August. I'm hoping to keep up this pace for a while longer, since I know that it will slow as I get closer to goal - there just won't be as much F-A-T to burn.

This winter has been especially mild here in the San Francisco Bay area. Usually, January and February are cold and rainy. Except for a few weekdays when it rained, it has been pretty nice, especially the weekends. The weather person is promising rain starting later today, and Wednesday, and next weekend ... we'll see.

I put together Vicki's dumbbell weight bench last night. Today, I think I'll get my new weight set out and set up a plan for it's use.

2001.01.25 OLD MYTH ... The Human Resources person at work complimented me on my weight loss today while talking to another co-worker. She asked "what I did". I explained that it was just sensible eating and exercise. The other lady made some comment about how men lose weight so much faster than men. To that I say BULL PUCKEY!! If you happen to look at my PICTURES page, and view the shots of my wife, you'll be quick to realize that she has lost almost as much as me in this quest. And she didn't really discover eDiets and get into the exercise regimen until about a month after I started.

The other thing that some people don't realize, or try to fool themselves into not believing, is that it really does require a fundamental lifestyle change to lose anything that approaches 100 lbs. You aren't able to "temporarily go on a diet" and then resume a previous lifestyle. The best analogy is probably alcohol addiction. To cure yourself, you have to make fundamental, permanent changes, and there is no going back.

The trick is finding a Way of Eating (WOE) that satisfies and fills, without piling on excess calories. As I have stated before, I found the solution for my midday meal (lunch) at Subway sandwich shops. I find that their Veggie Delite, with the light mayo and cheese, and a bag of Baked Lays potato crisps, provides a pretty good lunch for under 450 calories. My boring WOE is documented in MY SECRET. If you find something that works for you, stick to it. You are on your way!

Thank You for Visiting!!
