Eugene Hartzell (1932)

Eugene Hartzell was born on 21 May 1932 in Cincinnati (USA), but lives in Vienna. He studied piano, music theory, history, English and composition at Kent State University and Yale University. From 1956 to 1958 and from 1960 to 1962, Hartzell studied composition privately with Hans Erich Apostel in Vienna. From 1960 to 1970, he was musical correspondant for the London Times. From 1974 to 1991, he was a producer at Radio Austria International. In 1986, Hartzell founded the Ensemble Wiener Collage with René Staar and Erik Freitag.
