12/27/97 Maritime Hall - Broken Angels w/ Phil Lesh
It took a minute or two for Phil's knees and heart to turn to jello once again. This time he was a little better prepared for the whole
experience. He issued quite a few commands to the sound guy, who obviously was not used to receiving instructions, especially from a
professional!! Phil got the sound to where he wanted it for the moment anyway and then he started melting with the realization that he was
leading the band......the jamming began.......I began to melt!!!
With each new song it seemed to take a minute or two or perhaps three or four for Phil to realize that he was the leader of this band and once he
did, each song seemed to begin to gel. He was rippin' playin' lead on
his base, not an easy feat and one that he is trying to master quickly.
A fine job Phil, once again, I'm blown away. ‘Tis rare to watch the base player command the lead with a six string. Truly blessed I am,
once again.......THANX.
Although they did many Jerry songs the last show, this time they sang the words and for me that hit kinda heavy after a while. The first few
Jerry songs the effect was minimal, but the more Jerry tunes they sang, the more they sank into my heart.............not so much in a bad way,
but it weighed heavy on my heart and soul. That's a ME thing.........it took me quite a while before I could even listen to tapes post 8/9/95.
The show was magical and I must confess no less was expected and in that I broke one of my rules which is to expect nothing........... And so it
goes...
In this case I was not dissapointed, but then again.....I don't see how I could've been......
OUR LOVE WILL NEVER FADE AWAY
Oh Yeah and CHAOS RULE THE UNIVERSE............JUST SAY KNOW......
12/7/97 - Philharmonia - Maritime Hall - San Francisco, CA
Chills ran down my spine for the first three songs of
PhilHarmonia. Beautiful harmonies were created by all. A wonderful rendition of the
12 Days of Christmas conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas wherein the audience was split into 12 parts. There were many attempts at a row,
row, row your boat type of multi-part sing along. Most of them worked quite well. I was very impressed with everyone's (including my own)
ability to ‘wing it.' The words to the songs were projected on the walls for all to see and sing along. It was obvious, though, that our
hosts did not rehearse which made it all the more fun to watch them ‘wing it.' The fact that we are forever watching their rehearsals never
ceases to amaze me.
It was wonderful to see Donna Jean and she seemed awe struck by the applause she got when she was introduced. Graham Nash had way too much
fun rousing the boys and that truly was a pleasure to watch. From all of the shows I've seen lately, I just keep thinking how wonderful it is
that ‘the scene' has finally gotten back to it's roots. Love was in the air. Oh yeah and CHAOS RULES...........the Pranksters were
there.........feeding our heads..........the spin was just a little different than ENIT was, but the message was the same. Thanks to all
for an incredible afternoon/evening and weekend. I had the pleasure of meeting quite a few DNCers which was a little weird in a very good way!!
Take a deep breath........you just received a blast of energy filled
with LOVE.
11/21/97 - ENIT - Bill Graham Civic Center - San Francisco, CA
I arrived a little late, about 11 and was given a map to guide me on my
trip.....went to look for the coat check located on the map, but not inside....stashed my coat.....and set out on my
trip.......wandered the halls.....checked out the many rooms full of every kind of erotic
delight imaginable... a little slice of heaven...PRANKSTER HEAVEN. This is the abridged version.
The map I was given also had this to say:
ENIT is an inter-planetary festival celebrating cosmic peace and
sexuality. During ENIT "many youngsters become men and many a girl becomes the first love of her boyfriend."
Cancer Planet Mission, subtitled an introduction to Cosmophilosophy, details since vanished author Ludwig
Pallmann's travels throughout South and Central America and India and his interaction with benevolent
visitors from another planet. Mr. Pallmann portrays our alien visitors as an enlightened and peaceful race of intelligent and religious human
beings.
Planet Earth is excluded from ENIT and other inter-galactic events because it is considered an underdeveloped planet, a "cancer planet,"
with a warmongering kind of humanity and moral standards well below those of the average cosmic civilization. Mr. Pallmann writes, "It is
possible, with the help of Cosmophilosophy, to understand our evolutionary destiny. It is possible to stop this race of hatred and
turn to love."
