Book of Friends: Trilogy

A247a 1987 FIRST CAPRA EDITION

Illustrated white wrappers with cover drawing by Francine Rudesill

Published on April 30, 1987, at $9.95.

Note: This collection of three previously published books of essays follows the earlier editions, with the following exception: There is a five paragraph section in the Jimmy Pasta essay which was deleted from this combined edition, and also from the British combined edition [A247b]. This section, which begins on page 72 in the American Edition of Book of Friends [A198a] and p. 70 of the British edition [A198f], tells of the last sexual encounter Miller had with Pauline, "the widow." Because Miller's phrasing had been found offensive to some, it was deleted from these later editions.

A247b [THE COMPLETE BOOK OF FRIENDS] 1988

FIRST ALLISON & BUSBY / W.H. ALLEN EDITION

Gray illustrated wrappers with illustration of outdoor cafe by Angela Sellers

Published in 1988, at £6.99.

Note: This British Edition reproduces the sketches drawn by Henry Miller which appear in the First Edition, but not the many photographs of friends and city buildings.

A247c 1988 FIRST BORGO PRESS EDITION

Illustrated white wrappers laminated over boards with cover drawing by Francine Rudesill

Published in 1988, at $24.95.

Note: The Borgo Press edition is a Capra Press paperback that has the original paper wrapper reinforced with cardboard and then covered with a plastic coating. These books are produced primarily for library and other institutional use. A Borgo Press label is pasted over the original Capra Press publisher's device on the title page. Since the date on the Borgo labels are changed annually, it is possible that copies can be found showing different dates continuing from 1988 forward. 1988 is the first year Borgo press rebound this title and made it available.
