A119a 1959 FIRST NEW DIRECTIONS EDITION
Bright red cloth boards. Orange dust jacket with photograph of Henry Miller
Published on December 7, 1959, at $6.50, in an edition of 10,000 copies. This figure most likely included those for the Marlboro Book Club Edition [see A119b] as well, but is not known for certain.
Note: We also encountered a reference for a reprint edition of The Henry Miller Reader published by Books For Libraries [no city listed] in 1972. This edition, listed as 397 pages, would most likely parallel the New Directions edition, but have a heavier, sturdier binding. It was listed at $14.50. This edition was not seen.
A119b 1959 MARBORO BOOK CLUB EDITION
Same as First Edition except the front flap of the dust jacket has the notation "MARBORO BOOK CLUB."
