About Me

The facts:

Born and raised in Highland Park California, a tiny suburb of downtown Los Angeles just below South Pasadena. I have the dubious distinction of being a third generation native of Los Angeles. How many others of you can say that? I was a proud student of the Los Angeles public school system, and at eight years old my dad packed up the family and moved us to the foothill town of La Canada.

School:

Grammar school at Garvanza Elementary School in Highland Park, then to La Canada Elementary, Foothill Intermediate School, and I graduated from La Canada High School. A couple of years at Pasadena City College getting my general ed, then off to Cal Poly Pomona to chase my lofty dreams of designing spacecraft. At Cal Poly, I took all the prerequisite physics, mathematics and design classes, but I had chosen to enter a career which was being "downsized" as the economy was rolling back and pinkslips were being handed out to a majority of workers of the aerospace industry. So I changed majors as I changed schools, and in 1984 I graduated with a bachelor's degree in TV / Film Production from California State University Northridge.

Work:

I'm a video assist engineer for the motion picture industry, and I've been "video assisting" for about ten years now. I started video assist working on a series of automobile and retail store commercials, and about four years ago I worked on my first motion picture, "Strange Days". Since then I've provided video for fourteen motion pictures, ranging from "Baseketball" to "Titanic". Take a look at the list of films I've worked on, and I would love to hear from anyone who's seen the nine films that have been released that I've provided video on. (Yes, I've found one person so far, the poor thing.) Before video assist, I was a freelance video engineer. I started working when I was about nineteen for a company called TriTronics in Burbank, where I learned broadcast equipment maintenance and repair, and when I went freelance I picked up contracts for Hilton Hotels, Media City Teleproduction, Rock Solid Productions, NBC, Disney, various informercial production firms, and even the Mars Pathfinder project at Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
