MDF: Cabinetmakers often use MDF (Medium Densi-
ty Fiberboard) for painted work.
Don’t confuse it with particleboard. MDF is very
smooth and fine-grained, and takes paint very well....
NOTE on drawers. I often make drawers for
kitchens (and other rooms too) with Melamine
bottoms. Melamine has a hard surface similar
to laminate (Formica, etc) countertops. This
makes the drawer easy to clean, and you don’t
need to add shelf paper...
The drawer on the right has sides of 1/2"
ApplePly, a quality plywood with attractive
edges. It’s an economical alternative to solid
wood sides.
The drawer runs on white full-extension slides
by KV or Accuride.
