My friend, Ali, and I went to the Weezer concert in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom. We left Rockford at 4:00-ish (we would've gone sooner, but we had school so we couldn't. Plus we go to a private school, so we couldn't wear our uniforms. That would've been weird). I figured, since it should only take about an hour and a half to get there that we'd be pretty early. I figured wrong. There was so much traffic. We literally got 3 miles in an hour. We didn't get to the Aragon Ballroom until 7:15 and it started at 7:30. I thought we'd end up getting in the back and we'd have to push through a ton of people (because I was going to get pretty close. I was determined. In the words of the Blues Brothers "I was on a mission from God"). Anyway, we got inside as soon as possible, and I thought there'd be a ton of people right around the stage, and there were...they were just all in the middle. There weren't that many people by where Brian would be (I had to get by Brian. He's my favorite member) and everyone was pretty spread out around there. So I maneuvered through some people and got about 20 feet away. Then after a few minutes the lights went out and everyone moved in as fast as they could about 10 feet. So we ended up getting pretty close, but there was this guy (I swear, he was 6'5'' which is pretty tall, seeing as how I'm only 5'4'') standing right in my face. He had a red leather jacket on (which kind of made me sick since I'm a vegetarian) too and he was with this other really tall guy standing next to me, and this whiny girl standing right next to him. When Ringside was playing all I heard was "I hear the Backstreet Boys" or "I hear Santana" from the girl. She was so annoying. I thought Ringside was pretty good, but a few of the songs sounded the same. When they were done after about a half hour, the lights went back on and the 3 people who were right around me went closer, which I was really happy about. But then this other really tall guy stood right in front of me...again. After another half hour of waiting, Weezer (finally) came onto the stage. I decided I couldn't stand any more tall people in front of me (because I could hardly see anything) so I moved over about 4 feet and I saw perfectly.
Tired Of Sex- Great song. Pinkerton's my favorite album, so I was pretty happy to hear all Pink songs.
In The Garage- I am so happy they played this song. It sounded perfect. Exactly like the album. That's about when (it might have been after the next song. I forget) Rivers said something like "This is gonna be our last song." It was funny.
No One Else- I'm not very fond of this song. But it still sounded pretty good.
Pardon Me- This is one of my favorite songs from Make Believe and I'm glad they played it.
Buddy Holly- Who doesn't love Buddy Holly?
Photograph- I don't know how I feel about this song, but it did sound very good. I have to admit.
Hold Me- This is my new favorite song (after El Scorcho, of course).
Getchoo- Brian sang this!! It was so great. Rivers was like "I'm step down and let Brian sing this one." And he had a look like "What? I am?" But he knew. You could tell.
Say It Ain't So- Everyone was singing so loud when the lyric "This way is a waterslide away from me that takes you further every day" came.
We Are All On Drugs- Not many people knew this song. But I did!
Island In The Sun- For some reason, this sounded a little off. I don't know what it was. But after the whole "Mary Kate and Ashley" thing I really don't like this song that much.
My Name Is Jonas- I love this song. It's my favorite from Blue so I was happy to hear it.
Peace- I don't know if I like this song yet. Maybe I need to hear it more.
Beverly Hills- This one sounded a little weird too. But everyone was clapping the entire time. Brian got them all started. It was fun.
Hash Pipe- The entire time I was waiting for the back bend. I knew it wouldn't happen. But a girl can always hope.
Haunt You Every Day- Great song. Not much to say about it though.
That's when they went off stage for a few minutes and everyone was cheering and chanting "Weezer! Weezer!" And at one point, for some reason I don't know, we were all stomping our feet on the ground.
Undone - The Sweater Song- When this song came on I was like "Damn! There's only two songs left!" But everyone was singing along. Brian started out with the words from El Scorcho too. I couldn't tell at first, because people were cheering so loud because, obviously, it's a very very well known Weezer song. But then it got a little bit quieter and I heard what he was saying.
The Good Life- This song was great. When it was over, Pat, Brian, and Scott all walked off and Rivers "let the feedback rain down" (in the words of Greg Kot) for like 5 minutes. While everyone was cheering and, as Karl says "happily losing thier minds" which I have to admit is entirely true.
There were a few problems with the crowd however, as many people have heard. To start off, in the middle of Ringside, there was this drunk guy screaming stuff like "This is the greatest song ever!" while everyone else was pretty much not moving at all. He was almost right next to Ali. Everyone looked at him like "What the hell is your problem?" Another problem was there were a ton of people by me who didn't know the words to the songs! Any of them! They didn't even make the Weezer hand sign thing. It's people like that that make me angry. They're the people that don't have anything better to do, so they take tickets and have Ticketmaster sell out so real fans can't even go! One more problem was apparently some guy got knocked unconscious. I also saw a bunch of people try to body surf but the security guards kept freaking out and yelling at them. And some chick got on some guys shoulders and started to flick off the security guards. But I was pretty far over, so I didn't hear about it until the next day when I read it on the .com message board. When everyone was walking out (which took about 15 minutes) people were singing "Across the Sea" and "El Scorcho." It was an amazing concert. It was absolutely
perfect. |
