=W= Show Experience: "I have been to the Yahoo! Outloud Tour in Columbia, MO (2001), the Extended Midget Tour in Kansas City, MO (2001), the Enlightenment Tour in Dallas, TX (2002), and was an extra in the video shoot for "Beverly Hills." So for the count: currently with the SF show I've been to 4 =w= concerts (and it will be 5 after Vegas!) and 1 video shoot!"
My husband and I are living in California for about a year because of his job and this couldn't be a better year to do it! It is giving us opportunities to see Weezer that we would have missed out on in Oklahoma! As the big day got closer, I became more and more excited; I love seeing Weezer live! The concert was the start of my "Birthday Extravaganza" celebration from my husband, Eric (my birthday was on the following Friday, 5/6). We took the fairly short drive from the central valley to SF, with traffic I think it was about an hour and a half. Like I said, Eric and I are from Oklahoma and they don't usually play there, so we have always had to drive a distance to see Weezer. We have been to Missouri twice (Columbia and Kansas City) and Texas once (Dallas); so this drive was nothing for us!
Anyways, we got to SF and checked into our hotel (we were staying the night so we could do some sightseeing the next day) and made our short walk to The Warfield. We showed up about 45 minutes to an hour before the doors opened. I saw Karl walking around with a camcorder a few minutes before we went inside and then again as we were walking in, I wanted to stop and talk but the line was moving so I ended up going with the line. When we got inside, we headed straight to the floor to secure our spots. We were in the third row between Brian and Rivers (it was a great location!). Ringside came on at 8 and they were pretty good; I felt bad for them when people would shout mean stuff at them. It's not easy opening for a band that people haven't seen in three years! They rolled with the punches though and did a good job.
The crew did a speedy job of setting up the stage for Weezer and after three years of getting my fix from CD's, the boys stepped onto the stage and I was ecstatic! They changed the setlist from the past two nights, so that was a nice surprise! I felt like they were really solid. The guys seemed like they were having a blast on stage! Also, I loved the venue being smaller; it seemed much more intimate. When they started playing "Hash Pipe" everyone went crazy, it was great! I can never get enough of the songs from Blue and Pink, and they had a healthy dose of it with: "Tired of Sex", "Buddy Holly", "The Good Life", "Say It Ain't So", "My Name Is Jonas", "In the Garage", "No One Else", "Getchoo", and "Undone - The Sweater Song". Of course, the songs were all amazing! Although Green and Maladroit aren't as good as Blue and Pink (IMO), it was good to hear a few songs from them; I especially enjoyed hearing "Slob"! The new stuff from Make Believe was a real treat to hear; it made me even more excited for the CD on 5/10! During "Beverly Hills" I couldn't get over Pat doing the "gimme gimme's", it was so cute! (Some people said Scott did them, too; I wasn't watching him during this song though). Rivers, Pat, Brian, and Scott (and Bobby when he helped out on the guitar) all did an outstanding job! Those boys never stop rocking! The show was great; I would sing along to parts of it and just close my eyes and listen to other parts of it! After the encore and all the feedback, we hung around for a few minutes to let it all soak in; it was an incredible show! One thing I missed was "Only in Dreams"; "Haunt You Everyday" was a good end before the encore, but I LOVE "Only in Dreams" live. I think this was my first time to not hear it at a concert! It's ok though; it was still one heck of a performance! After we left the floor, we went and hopped in line so I could buy a shirt. I was disappointed there weren't "tour" shirts; I really like to get those, but I still ended up with a cute shirt! As Eric and I walked back to the hotel, we talked about how great the show was and how we were bummed it was over!
There really is something about seeing Weezer live and when it's over, you can't wait for that next time… |
