His writings have been published in five languages.

Since early in his career, he has been assisting clients with technical documentation, content management, Web site design, Web traffic analysis, search engine submission, and keyword optimization. Currently, Stewart's visionary advertising and marketing advice provides clients with immediate visibility on copy, ALT tags and keyword terms relating to upcoming press releases for their product development efforts. In his own words, "Content in Friendly Net publications should target granular markets. Applying digital dissemination strategies, like accessible online publishing, is a quick and effective way to accomplish your transfer-of-knowledge objectives. This approach will generate more natural search results as your search engine optimization efforts begin to bear fruit. Ensure that there are a variety of methods to elicit feedback, inquiries and moderated commentary. Dynamic solutions work in certain situations, but somewhere down the line, human response is the deal-maker, or breaker, so maintain a flexible business model. Finally, budget for a content expert who can focus on setting and meeting vertical goals with a dedicated document project team."

Bradford Technologies

ClickForms, Bradford Technologies' flagship product, is a world-class, turnkey and deadline-oriented real estate appraisal EDI software solution developed for the tablet PC. Six months of development was committed to updating all documentation associated with this version 10 of the Appraiser's Toolbox. I generated the print version of their product tutorial (using Adobe InDesign), designed and authored a User Guide e-Book (using SnagIt & Help and Manual), and published weekly newsletters in conjunction with the Marketing Manager. When CEO, Jeff Bradford asked me to help plan an update of the corporate Web site, I recruited an expert, and the project was completed successfully.

Certainty Solutions

Originally named "Global Networking and Computing" or "GNAC" (pronounced Jee Knack), Certainty Solutions Inc. (CSI) began as "The Internet Consulting Company" led by civil engineers, Pam and David Ross, and funded by Sendmail developer, Paul Vixie. GNAC architected and maintained data centers for the Palo Alto Internet Exchange (PAIX), Cisco Systems, Sun Microsystems, SGI and Microsoft Web TV (Silicon Valley Campus and Tokyo, Japan). I was hired by GNAC as their Webmaster and worked primarily in reorganizing the hierarchical structure on the Network Operations Center (NOC) Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) file server, documenting all hardware, data and packet management processes. I also tackled several projects mapping network architecture with Visio for Microsoft Hotmail, WebTV Networks and SAP. I edited documents in a UNIX shell with Pico, while RCS was used for version control. Intranet templates were designed with Dreamweaver and Fireworks and converted to scripted WML for editing, so headers, footers and timestamps could be dynamically generated. GNAC relaunched as Internet Managed Service Provider (IMSP), CSI, in November 2000.

Conserver

Conserver is the daemon that manages remote access to system consoles by multiple users via the console client program and logs all console output. It can connect to consoles via local serial ports, terminal servers that allow network access, or to any external program. Bryan Stansell is keeper of the source code. We worked together at Global Networking and Computing. Mr. Stansell is probably one of the most accomplished Network and System Administrators that I have ever met. He asked me to design a title graphic for the site header (in Photoshop), which unfortunately, is no longer in production. David "Zonker" Harris publishes the "Greater Scroll of Console Knowledge", which I have had the honor to edit over the years. Bryan and Zonker also asked me to proofread a PowerPoint presentation for their scheduled talk at the LISA 2000 conference. I am still contacted on a regular basis to contribute usability feedback to Zonker's site design.

Data Technology

Dale Jeffreys, President of an affiliated company, Data Technology Software Integration, introduced me to this client, his former business partner, Les Crisp. Data Technology is the Toronto-based Canadian Value Added Distributor of Telxon barcode scanners, Radio Frequency technology and Point Of Sale systems. They needed a robust Web-based feedback solution and some development performed to their Web site. After several brief face-to-face meetings and telephone conferences with Datatek management, a custom JavaScript code was developed and a proposed design was accepted. The project went live in April 2000 and is still in production five years later.

Fresh Coast Magazine

As a freelance journalist, scout and photoshoot coordinator, I covered the appearances of Specialty Equipment Manufacturers and car clubs at major Northern California events. I researched, wrote, edited and planned a five page photo layout and article. The content featured a photo layout of Fresh Coast-wrapped SUVs, prototype sports cars and an Asian model in the parking lot of Benihana restaurant in Burlingame, California. It was shot against a dynamic backdrop of commercial jets taking off over San Francisco Bay. The copy was intended to promote Japanese OEM and aftermarket bodykit maker, Vuteq Aero Sports and Import Motion, a syndicated Car Show. A new model was incorporated in the second set of photos, which were shot with twelve modified custom vehicles, sponsored by Vuteq and competing in the Import Motion Sacramento event. A third shoot was scheduled to take place at the M2 Image Car Showdown in Fremont, California. The article was published in the 2004 Summer quarterly edition of Fresh Coast Magazine.

Kanematsu Group

One of my first positions in Tokyo in 1995 was as a Curriculum Consultant for Kanematsu. I worked at the Company Head Office in Hamamatsu-Cho and at a branch office in Ginza. My first responsibility was to select a range of ESL materials for corporate employees. I met with traders on a daily basis in individual sessions and group classes. My co-workers were being posted to positions in Italy, the United States, Hong Kong, India and Australia. Most classes were intensive vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation sessions that lasted from two to three hours. After several weeks, my trainees had accomplished a sufficient level of communication to be transferred abroad. Sony A&R was one external client.

Marubeni Sogo Shosha

Marubeni Trading hired me for a one-year contract in July 1995. As a language instructor with Marubeni Personnel Support, I was posted to both in-house teaching assignments at the Tokyo Head Office and external "keiretsu gaisha" (associated network of companies). While some projects, such as teaching five classes each at Canon and Ricoh, involved curriculum development and performance evaluation, other assignments, like six-months of on-site work at the Japan Patent Office and Kureha Pharmaceuticals, included proofreading and authoring duties. The bulk of my teaching was performed at the Government of Japan Higashi Murayama Training Center, otherwise I moved around from one company office and government ministry to another on a daily basis, teaching business English to staff who were attending global conferences and being transferred overseas. I covered territory from Saitama, to Chiba and South Yokohama.

PACDBTAC

In February 2003, I was contacted by Erica Jones, director of the Pacific Americans with Disabilities Act and Accessible Information Technology Center (Pacific Disability and Business Technical Assistance Center} for Federal Region IX, who invited me to become Accessible Information Technology Coordinator, responsible for California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii and the Pacific Basin (American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and Palau). I accepted the offer and began to develop several projects for the Center. With a million dollar annual budget and our dedicated group of state contractors, my team disseminated information on Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and Section 255 of the Communications Act to over 8,000 subscribers. We visited schools and community centers, participated in conferences and collaborated with government entities to promote Accessible IT throughout our federal region. My team also designed and coded the center's accessible Web site and developed a Section 508-compliant JavaScript pull-down navigation menu.

Public Health Institute

The Public Health Institute (PHI) manages funding for non-profit organizations. While I was working for the Pacific DBTAC, PHI asked me to conduct an accessibility assessment on the newly redesigned Web site. I was also selected to write copy for their newsletter mailing announcing the site. During my tenure with the DBTAC, I had the opportunity to consult with PHI on a number of projects concerning Accessibility, including contributing to the publication of an ADA compliance assessment of their premises. I authored the first Accessible Information Technology Technical Assistance Guide (in Microsoft Word) to be used internally for any entity under PHI's management.

Quality Control Services

Quality Control Services (QCS Ltd.) is the premiere quality assurance inspection company for hard goods manufactured in China. In 1998, David Levy, director of QCS Ltd. approached me to organize the launch of a Japan Desk at the Hong Kong Head Office. I interviewed over fifty candidates in Tokyo and Nagano, hired and trained an associate, set up Japanese language systems and oversaw the documentation localization process. Working for five months, on-site in Hong Kong and China, I designed and published the first QCS Web site and developed solutions for transferring digital video of product inspection from China to Hong Kong and worldwide. I continued to maintain the QCS web site remotely from Toronto and Silicon Valley using Macromedia Dreamweaver and Apple QuickTime Pro until 2002, when I handed off site maintenance to in-house staff. I coined the QCS motto "Quality is in our name".

Tokyo University

I met Dr. Naohide Yamashita in August 1990 on a teaching contract from the Tokyo Language Instructors Guild (to inspire his four-year-old son to speak English). Dr. Yamashita is the director of Tokyo University Department of Advanced Medical Research. During the next twelve years, Dr. Yamashita and his wife, Naomi, a researcher and St. Marianna's Medical University, sent me a number of clinical studies to proofread. These studies were published in major medical journals, including: the International Archive of Allergy Immunology, Cell Immunology, Clinical Experimental Immunology, the Journal of Allergy Clinical Immunology and the International Review of Immunology. More than a decade spent advising the Drs. Yamashita enabled me to perfect my medical writing and medical editing skills, expand my medical terminology vocabulary (in English and Japanese), and improve my knowledge of clinical best practices.

Total Systematic Technology

Based in Nagano, Japan, Total Systematic Technology (TST) engineers Surface Mounted Technology divider devices to separate circuit boards without creating flaws in their integrity. The major advantages of their products are improved quality standards and conformity to Product Liability (PL) law. In 1997, I was hired by TST to perform specific publication tasks, such as developing their first Web site (hand-coded HTML), designing marketing brochures for Internepcon and similar expositions (using Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop, PageMaker and Illustrator), and proofreading/editing documentation translated from Japanese to English (in WordPerfect). TST's dividers are used by every major circuit board manufacturer in the industry.

Tyler Gentry Designs

Tyler Gentry is a Canadian West Coast artist who has been exhibiting his creations in Montreal since 2004. Born in Gibsons, B.C., Tyler's artistic roots are in drawing, photography, and computer graphics. His surrealistic works are created primarily with pastels, acrylics, and oils. His pieces engender a unique contrast between the hard shapes of nature and soft elegant lines of neo-technology. The themes of his paintings are often raw and are chosen to evoke strong emotion in the viewer and to provoke a strong kharmic identification with the subject. Tyler Gentry is a self-taught visionary artist whos surreal landscapes, sculptures and cosmic abstractions are unified by geometric fluidity. His inspiring artwork examines the symbiotic relationship between natural forces and cultural iconography. Tyler's style epitomizes the New Wave of Canadian artistic talent. He asked me to redesign his site, so we sat down togther and figured out how he wanted it to look and function. I wrote some custom JavaScript and he prepared the graphics with Corel Draw. Then, I put together an HTML template for him and showed him how to maintain it using Dreamweaver. After three weeks of training, development and revision, the site went live. Tyler is updating it himself.

World Vision International

Early in 2003, World Vision International (WVI) Human Resources contracted a recruiter to locate me for a six-week Curriculum Development project. They were about to roll out a new version of their Lotus Notes Human Resources Management System (HRMS) and needed my to create a training CD for new staff using desktop videos. I spent one week at WVI Headquarters in Monrovia, California learning the application and taking notes, then I was set up with a local version of the database client and Lotus Domino Server on my laptop. I used Techsmith Camtasia Studio to capture the video, insert callouts and captions, trancode and compress the final product and compile a CD-based application menu for browsing through the training session tasks.
