| Walking down Fair Oaks Boulevard I came across a scene that reminded
me of a friend of mine and his abstract expressionist paintings.
The paintings were massive multimedia paintings of chevrons. Thick
blackish paint pushed back and forth some with objects worked in.
He also created an installation that was a chain link fence mounted on
a wall with venetian blind slats interwoven. His father died a little
before the piece and it seemed to me that this was a response to this major
event in his life. A fence crafted to be beautiful, resilient, and
impenetrable, with poetry peeking through on the wall behind. I know
that he and his father had a difference about his career choice in life
but the difference appeared to be resolved. This image is like one
of his chevrons. It seems to me that trying to make an abstract expressionistic
image on a computer falls short of the idea. The computer is easy
and part of the idea in abstract expressionism is the actual work.
Work is difficult and one expends energy… that's why they call it work.
So here is an image of a chevron like dive way and the elements that interact
with it.
Walls... seemed to be built by the idea of a single individual
that can be accepted by none, some or all. The walls are placed dividing
one side from the other and then time moves on. The wall can be so
dominating that one side of the wall evolves independent from the other.
Or the divided sides are so overpowering that the wall is really insignificant.
An individual can come around and maintain the idea for a while but in
eternity the walls come tumbling down. |
