WIRE FENCE

This is a drawing of a field in Pleasant Grove. I worked on a project for the company that lasted two and a half years. Weather, coordination with other work groups, and the complexity of the job extended my stay along those fields. Each day I would leave the hustle and bustle of Sacramento just at the peak of rush hour and drive north on Interstate 5 then to 99. The further I drove the more civilization and the traffic would drop away and the countryside would take over. Turning off the main highway and onto any of the lonely rural roads that would lead to Pleasant Grove, the only signs of man was the road and the uniformed fields that went on as far as one could see. Every now and then the wildlife would be disturbed and run or fly away as I drove by. Driving for miles with the morning sun exposing the beautiful colors and shapes of nature was a cleansing ritual that each day started with. Some of my co-workers had a part in the project, but the majority of the work was mine. The little town is a few buildings with a café, Post Office, and a Pacific Bell Central Office. But Pleasant Grove was actually all of the farmland for many miles around. It was dotted with horse and cattle ranches, small homes, and miles and miles of hay, alfalfa, corn, and rice fields. This drawing was completed during my lunch break as I sat in my work truck by the side of the road. It was a dry day in the winter and the green of the growing season was replaced by grays and browns. The wind was still and the only sound was the occasional bird call.
