Thursday, April 10, 2003 - La Foolia, a benefit concert for the San Francisco Early Music Society education programs including Baroque, Medieval/Renaissance, and Recorder summer workshops, and the Music Discovery Workshop and after school programs for children. Co-sponsored by the Oakland Museum of California, we offer food, wine, and foolish musical fare in a raucous spectacle of early music comedy. Shira Kammen, Susan Rode Morris, Katherine Westine, and Phebe Craig. We need your support to ensure that early music education continues to thrive in the Bay Area. The La Foolia performers are generously donating their time, receiving only a small stipend for their work. Please help us to make this event a success and to invest in the continuation of our vibrant early music education community. Tickets are $30, but this is a fund-raiser, so contributions in excess of the ticket price are perfectly de rigeur. 7 pm - hors d'oeuvres & wine 8 pm - concert - Oakland Museum of California - James Moore Theatre, 10th & Oak Streets (one block from Lake Merritt BART), Free parking in the museum garage. Friday, April 25 - Theatrvm Mvsicvm presents "The hidden pearl: Invisible beginnings of the Baroque." Theatrvm Mvsicvm (Sean Smith: lute, Andrew Hartig: lute, Renaissance guitar, Robin Snyder: mezzo-soprano) will perform art songs and lute duets from the late sixteenth century, including works by Cipriano de Rore, Orlando di Lasso, and Janequin as well as divisions and contrapunti by Bassano, Terzi, and others. 8:00 pm, Parish Hall of St. Alban's Church, 1501 Washington Ave., Albany. All tickets are $10 general, $8 students, seniors, teachers.
